Sports :: How to Win at Betting: Sports Gambling Winning Percentage, What You Need to Know September 10, 2016

And as is the case with the Arkansas-based giant, many times this will be more profitable than being extremely selective and doing a small amount of volume, even if the mark-up is higher.

The only statistic that sports bettors should be concerned with is units won, which is the amount of profit, or loss, they have over time, and not worry nearly as much about winning percentage. In the question above, it would be much better to be a 55-percent handicapper if you were playing 150 games a month, as opposed to a 60-percent handicapper playing one game a day. If somebody were to ask you if you would rather be a 60-percent handicapper or a 55-percent handicapper, which would you choose? The obvious answer is that it’s better to be a 60-percent handicapper, but that isn’t necessarily true.

With baseball season coming back in about 4 months, many sports gamblers will be seeing ads from different sports services claiming winning percentages of 65-percent for baseball, and that’s entirely possibly, but what the services aren’t saying is that the majority of their selections were favorites of -200 or more, turning that 65-percent handicapping into a losing proposition.

The 55-percent handicapper is using what is commonly referred to as the Wal-Mart Approach, which is to have a lot of volume with the expectation of grinding out a small profit. A winning percentage of 55-percent sure doesn’t sound as sexy as a 60-percent handicapper, but if your volume of plays is high enough, it can certainly be much more profitable.

. At the end of the month, the 55-percent handicapper would have gone 83-67 for a gain of 9.3 units, while the 60-percent handicapper would have gone 18-12 for a profit of 4.8 units, so the 55-percent handicapper has made nearly twice as much.

Making it more difficult for sports bettors is that some sports services will claim to have won 200 units in a particular sport, but don’t mention that they release 10- or 20-unit plays, along with several 100-unit “locks” at the end of the year if things aren’t going so well and they need something to base next year’s advertising on.

For the bettors that do their own handicapping, however, units won is really the only thing you should be concerned with, as that ultimately is going to translate into the bottom line

Using Reverse Line Movement To Win

We tracked the top five books for each of the pointspread sports for the last two years, as as you can see, this strategy has been profitable in every sport. This is where an important word of caution is in order though. It should be noted that many fewer MLB games have qualified so far this season (is the whole world using RLM now?), but smaller profits is still profit.Again, these records are for Money Lines only and do not include totals. Finally, NHL sports betting has picked up 148.49 units in two years, and unlike MLB, NHL had four sportsbooks out of the top five gain double-digit units this past season. Keep a close eye on Canbet here, as that Australian sportsbook cracked the top five both years.

College Basketball sports betting was not too shabby either, with a two-year mark of 492-356-22, 58.0 percent, +91.96 units. This may enable you to get the stale more favorable sports betting line at the time the reverse line movement hits at the triggering Sportsbook. Furthermore, they list the RLM records for many individual sportsbook, making it easy to spot which books this system is working at and which books it may be best to ignore.

. Note that these records are for sides only and do not include totals.

The NFL sports betting is generally considered the toughest sport to beat, yet blindly following this method produced an exceptional 59.2 percent win rate last season, improving the two year record to 328-249-12, 56.8 percent, +59.06 units.

By: Manny G

Also, games where over 60 percent of the public are on one side, yet there is reverse line movement of at least 10 cents on the Money Line from the opening number at the top five sportsbooks in MLB and NHL sports betting has also been profitable. RLM takes place when more money/ sportsbook picks are bet by the small percentage of bettors that are on the unpopular side (the sharps) than is bet by the huge majority of players betting the popular side (the squares). The huge problem with this is that the nfl line, ncaaf line or nhl line may have moved too much by that time, and all of the value has been sucked out of the unpopular side.

NBA sports betting has the lowest two-year five-book RLM winning percentage among the 11/10 sports, but then again, every gambler in the world would kill to go 382-301-9, 55.9 percent, +48.90 units, and the 57.5 percent win rate this past season is nothing to sneeze at. This would make Miami +6 the RLM play.

So what causes RLM when the aim of most sportsbooks is to get as close to balanced action on both sides as possible? The answer to this is quite simple: the sharp bettors; the one’s who give sports betting advice. Carib ruled the roost season at 93-66-9, 58.5 percent, +18.55 units after ABC held the penthouse spot in the 2007-08 season.

prosportsonline.net

The highest two-year winning percentage using RLM from the top five books belongs to College Football, which went 480-341-10, 58.5 percent, +95.10 units. The records quoted below are based on the bets being made at the triggering books, so beating the move by a half-point or a few cents now and then would actually make your record even better.

Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com

Now do the sharps win every single time? Absolutely not! However, they are right more often than they are wrong, so being on the same side as the sharps is a prudent strategy over the long run, and again, the best thing is that there in absolutely no conventional sports handicapping necessary..

To back this up, our friends over at Prosportsonline.net have tracked the records for games where over 60 percent of the public has been on one side, yet there was reverse line movement of at least one full point from the opening number at the top sportsbooks in NFL, NCAAF, NBA and NCAAB. Sure, using this approach leaves open the possibility of the line turning around and moving back against you, but as you will see in bit, betting as soon as an RLM qualifies has been profitable in every major North American sport such as the last two seasons, so if one line turns around, so be it. All of this will be fun to follow (not to mention profitable) when every sport except baseball are going on simultaneously during the winter months.

http://prosportsonline.net

Thus, following reverse line movements is the same thing a following the smart money. Last year was a good RLM season for NFL sports betting (45-29, 60.8 percent, +11.91), but two sportsbooks that were in the top five in NFL RLM in both seasons.

The proper way to make a sports bet using reverse line movement is to place your bet as soon as there is an RLM of one full point (or 10 cents in MLB and NHL) off of the opening line. Keep an eyes on the top five sportsbooks at Sports Insights though, as NCAAF sports betting has been very liquid in that regard, with only one sportsbook (believe it or not, Bodog) finishing in the top five both years.

So what we recommend is to only use the top five each season for each individual sport (in terms of units won). Keep in mind that NCAAB was the most liquid sport in terms of top-five sportbooks however, with not a single sportsbook making the top five both years. To illustrate, let us say that San Diego Chargers open at -7 over the Miami Dolohins, and over 70 percent of the sports bets placed on the game are on San Diego. So what exactly is reverse line movement? RLM takes place when a large majority of bets are on one team, yet the line moves in the opposite direction. Another important recommendation is to use a slow moving (but reliable) sportsbook. However, instead of the line rising as you might expect, it instead drops to Chargers -6. Quite a few RLM followers watch the moves until almost game time, and then bet accordingly

Negative Effects of Gambling September 7, 2016

A recreational activity is supposed to be refreshing and relaxing, but something like gambling is contrary to the very purpose of recreation. The effect is similar to that of having a drug or a drink, which is why gambling changes one’s mental state and mood.

? The addiction to gambling can leave one in bankruptcy. The two go hand in hand. Betting is a mentally taxing activity, and as one goes on risking more and more money, anxiety starts building.

Mental and physical health problems, financial issues, and conflicts in the family are among the common negative effects of gambling. It can drag you into crime, gambling isn’t fun.

? As gambling leads to increased criminal activities, in a way, gamblers add to the burden on prisons and the legal system.

Initially, one looks at gambling as a way to run away from life’s problems, or from stress, anger, and loneliness. The addiction robs a gambler of all the productive time and leads to loss of efficiency at work. In spite of the losses incurred, they continue betting. The stress of risking huge amounts of money or the frustration after losing it can increase the tendency of abuse in gamblers. Six to eight million people in America are estimated to have a gambling problem.

? The costs of treating compulsive gamblers are huge. The addiction leads people to continue with gambling irrespective of whether they earn or lose in the deal. Some go that way to forget the sorrow of losing big sums when gambling.

? Studies show that children with a sibling or parent addicted to gambling, are more likely to take to substance abuse.

? According to the University of New York, in people with alcohol use disorders, the chances of developing an addiction to gambling are 23 times higher.

Gambling refers to the betting of money on an event with an uncertain outcome, with the intent of winning additional wealth. The addiction has negative effects on one’s physical and mental health and it proves to be detrimental to one’s social, personal, and professional life. A study by the same university suggested that 73% of the individuals who are imprisoned are found to be problem gamblers.

? Research has shown that gambling can lead to harmful behavior in people. It soon becomes a habit that can’t be broken.

? Substances of abuse are served at casinos and in pubs and clubs, thus increasing the likelihood of gamblers consuming them. On giving a serious consideration to the negative effects of gambling, we realize that it is best avoided.

? Children of parents who are problem gamblers or gambling addicts tend to feel abandoned and angry, further increasing stress and leading to strained family relations.

? People continue gambling with the greed of winning money. Forget satisfaction or peace, it is not even refreshing in the real sense. The addiction gets on to the gamblers to such an extent that they fail to think wisely before acting. This proves to be detrimental to their social and family life. In the following sections of this Buzzle article, we discuss the negative effects of gambling on the individual and society.

? Gambling can lead to criminal activities. Thus, gambling can have a grave economic impact which is difficult to reverse.

? Similar to how an individual keeps consuming substances like drugs or alcohol to experience an altered mental state, he continues to gamble. The decision to gamble money is based on three parameters namely; how much to bet, the predictability of the event, and the conditions agreed upon, between the gamblers. Some take to substance abuse to supplement the high they get from winning huge sums while gambling. Their debt keeps building and it may reach an amount that exceeds their capacity to repay.

? Gambling has proven to be addictive. Due to lost mental peace, they may ill-treat their spouse and children. Because of this, they land in worse situations and take the wrong decisions in life.

You could be at gunpoint or holding the gun. They engage in gambling activities at the cost of their time with family and friends. The greed never ends and they keep betting more and more. According to the National Research Council, 10 to 17% of the children of problem gamblers have been abused and so have 25 to 50% of the partners of problems gamblers.

Gambling = Thoughtless Expenditure + Waste of Time

? They start borrowing money and take secret loans. The National Council of Problem Gambling (NCPG) describes this type of gambling behavior as problem gambling.

? A majority of those addicted to gambling have substance abuse disorders.

? Gamblers often exhibit mood swings and a strangely secretive behavior. Thus, gambling practices cause a huge financial burden on the families of the affected and on the society at large.

? People who fall prey to gambling tend to remain away from their families and waste money on other bad practices. Card games, coin tossing, and dice-based games are some non-casino based forms of gambling. It causes a decline in his/her work performance, thus hampering his career.

? According to a study by the George State University, 50% of the problem gamblers commit crime. When they lose the money they had risked, they further gamble to recover the lost amount and it becomes a vicious circle even they can’t escape from.. They tend to stay away from their near ones, resulting in distrust between them and their loved ones.

Compulsive gambling leads to bankruptcy

? Addiction to gambling has been linked with substance abuse. It only leads to a thoughtless expenditure of money and valuables.

? Over time, the practice of gambling starts becoming a habit and begins to have damaging effects at psychological, physical, and social levels. Their mental state can even lead to suicidal tendencies.

? Problem gamblers and addicts tend to abuse their family members. Sports betting and arbitrage betting are the other types. The skill of a gambler lies in weighing the three parameters and making a decision about what amount should be staked and how much should be expected in return.

? Gambling at the cost of one’s job results in a decline in the quality of his professional life. ? According to a research by NCPG, 76 percent of problem gamblers are likely to have a major depressive disorder.

? Apart from absence at work and drop in efficiency, a common observation is that gamblers tend to steal money and engage in fraudulent behavior to recover from financial losses incurred when gambling, or to get more money to bet.

? Additionally, rehabilitation and public assistance systems are taxed.

? Gambling is practiced as a means of recreation. Addiction to gambling, coupled with substance abuse can make the gamblers physically abusive towards their family. Rehabilitating the gambling addicts needs money and time, and the process is not very easy. Over time, it becomes a habit, and eventually an obsession that can’t be overcome. To add to the so-called merry atmosphere, gamblers often smoke or drink while playing.

? An Austrian study said that around 1 in 5 suicidal patients had a gambling problem.

? The stress from gambling may lead to health issues like ulcers, stomach problems, muscle pains, headaches, and problems with sleep.

Games offered in casinos, table games like poker, Red Dog, and Blackjack, as also electronic games like Slot Machine and Video Poker are some of the common types of gambling

Please, Someone, Cast Him In A Science Fiction Movie

We were carried away by the story, watching it.

So Michael Fassbender does a movie like “Shame” and that leads to something like “Prometheus.” I feel like you never went down the sci-fi or action-movie role. And Ted Kennedy was one of the most responsible Senators that we’ve ever had. He’s trying to make everything right while not going to jail, which seems reasonable. A certain blockage comes up. The best people were trained in his office, came through the stuff he was pushing and working on his entire life.

For some reason, I can’t picture you in a theater enjoying “Star Wars.”

I remember it very well! I remember sitting there at an early showing of “Star Wars,” and the first time that the going-at-light-speed thing happened — which was new; now it seems silly — that was like, “Whoa!” I remember that very well.

The topic came up during a discussion of “Star Wars,” which — hard as it may be to picture — Gere saw in theaters back in 1977. You can contact him directly on Twitter.

Maybe that’s for the best.

I’ve never conceptualized a career.

But it was there.

It was there, but that’s one of the bizarre things about this.

After the accident, Robert flees the scene. That’s why you’re rooting for him. The scene in the park with my daughter, where I explain to her what happened — I certainly spin it in my favor. There’s some things in that that are … But sci-fi? Yes. And that’s more like this character. He just lost the bet. This person doesn’t work.

But there’s already a lot going on.

I think it took you off of that one track that, maybe, you felt like, “I know this very well.” You don’t see it coming.

It’s creepy, though.

It’s creepy. Do you ever feel a film is not going well?

Usually, what happens is you’ve gone over the script a million times and you go in really feeling confident about your script, [but then] you’re shooting and you realize that this scene doesn’t work. Nick and I made a point of that because, when we made the movie, it was so much on everyone’s mind — this was a year and four months ago. It’s early in the film, but we don’t see that coming. Morgan …

Yeah. A studio picture. Chappaquiddick. So it’s just really well-made on all levels: It’s well-conceived, well-written, well-acted, well-shot, scored. The Jamie Dimons of the world are more relevant. Unfortunately, the companies that make movies don’t make these anymore. But that was a moment where there are a lot of auditions and trying to put people together to make that cast work — but when he asked me to make the movie, I realized that my world was going in that direction of making movies. The best people working in Washington came through his office. When Lasse called me up and said, “Look, I’m involved with this movie,” I said, “I read that script.” And my first thought was, No, it’s not for me. This is like “Coriolanus” or something — “Richard II.” Big characters. It’s a movie that Sidney Lumet would have made in the 70s. I kept saying the line wrong. Terry Malick called me up in my hotel in L.A. So I think we did achieve that in places in that movie. The mix of people and story, and the way Garry Marshall was able to kind of corral it within his worldview, felt really good. He broke the law in a big way, but it’s understandable. Not tricky creepy, but sick creepy. I’ve never — those few instances, it didn’t show up on film.

‘Bachelorette’ (Sept. And either I wasn’t open to it in the moment or, who knows? A movie like that, it was just timing of when a script comes. Horrible, horrible decision. But we’ll have to wait to see him in a galaxy far, far away, because right now he’s promoting “Arbitrage,” out Friday, in which he stars as Robert Miller, an über-wealthy hedge-fund executive frantically trying to keep the pieces of his complicated life from falling apart. So I liked that gray area of someone like that, and adding that to the financial thing, to me, was the perfect storm of a character for two hours. What’s the fault? These are Shakespearean characters. But he’s not as relevant anymore. At all.

Ahead, Gere explains why his character isn’t really like Bernie Madoff, remembers watching “Pretty Woman” with Julia Roberts and singles out the movie from his past that still means the most to him.

Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan and Isla Fisher star as the three worst bridesmaids this side of Kristen Wiig in “Bachelorette.” Based on the stage play by director and writer Leslye Headland, the hilarious film debuted on video on demand and iTunes in early August and earned nearly $500,000 during its first weekend.

When you were coming up as an actor, what movies did you see? Did you see “Star Wars” with everyone else in 1977?

Sure.

“Arbitrage” played at Sundance and didn’t come out of the festival with the hype of something like “Beasts of the Southern Wild.” Can too much festival hype be a bad thing?

Well, you know, that was a festival movie. Whether it would communicate to other people? I didn’t have a clue. And who wouldn’t want to see the man who taught Julia Roberts how to be classy shoot lasers at an invading army of mutants?

So that was a surprise?

The degree that that has been embraced universally, the whole planet …

The CEO of J.P. “The Hoax” is one of my favorite movies that I’ve made, and very few people have seen it. 7)

That’s true. And I wanted to be genuinely creepy. On a human level, who would just run away from that situation? How many people would have just run away? Very few.

And then the car accident that results in the death of his girlfriend happens. So I’ve never thought about the marketplace at all, honestly.

I liked it because when I first read the script it resonated with Bernie Madoff and Ted Kennedy … Everybody does. The things he does are human. But he made one horrible decision. But you’ll never see it in the film. We all shave taxes — white lies to our wives and lovers. I’ve worked in Washington now for almost 30 years. Except for maybe “The Jackal.” Did that interest you?

The action thing was not an interest to me. It’s not a festival movie by design. It’s creepy. What do you do in that situation?

Well, let’s assume he didn’t mean to do any of it. not a great movie.

Am I a bad person because I’m rooting for him to succeed?

No.

It went well, so thank you. I like the movie. It was made with independent money; it didn’t have a distributor when we made it. I was 15 and had to sneak in by buying a ticket to “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” instead.

[Laughs] How did the date go?

Somebody, please cast Richard Gere in a science-fiction movie! Sure, it’s hardly the first genre that comes to mind when you think of the suave, intellectual star of “Pretty Woman” and “An Officer and a Gentleman,” but he says he’s game. It’s large compromises with ethics and morality the guy does, but it’s all within the realm we all do. We used to have a line where I talked about Madoff. and said, “Let’s make this movie.” It’s “Days of Heaven.” That, to me — it didn’t have anything to do with anyone else; it had to do with me. We all make bad decisions.

. That script came to me about two or three years before, and I read it and said, “This isn’t for me.” I didn’t get it. But sci-fi is something that interests me a lot, and that’s one of the genres that, for whatever reason, I haven’t been in.

That was my first date. Not the ones who Ponzi scheme and lie. It’s the hubris of, “I can’t lose. And if I do, I’m going to fix it because I’m a lord of the universe.”

My favorite line in “Arbitrage” is when Robert asks, “What’s an Applebee’s?”

[Laughs] Do you want to know the truth? I didn’t know what it was. The guys who make big bets and win. This isn’t a festival movie.

I was worried this movie was going down that Bernie Madoff-type road, but that’s not what this is at all. He made a big bet and he lost. And I said, “OK, let’s just do it head-on.” And we talked a little bit about him, [how] he’s a sociopath, he’s crazy. I said, “Applesbee? “Applebee’s? What is it?”

Can you give an example?

No. And then I read it and thought, What was I thinking? This is perfect.

When you’re filming a movie like this, can you tell if things are going pretty well? Or even on “Pretty Woman” or “Unfaithful,” do you feel, “People are going to like this”?

“Pretty Woman,” yes. And that’s what I liked about it. And either it doesn’t fit the story or it’s written all wrong or something, and you get a sense that there’s something that’s not really happening. These other things, I don’t really think about it, to tell you the truth.

He does some terrible things.

Yeah, but we all do. Lasse Hallström is, too. They really are. But I’m really proud of that movie.

Well, he’s not a sociopath — that’s a different universe. You don’t get along.

**SPOILER ALERT: Skip the next three questions and answers if you don’t want to know about a key plot point that happens early in the movie.**

Around the era when you were doing “American Gigolo” and “An Officer and a Gentleman,” nothing like that came up?

This comes down to scripts, you know? There are good version, there are bad versions. And I think that’s why, in a way, we root for this guy and we identify with him. But you’d never see it in the film.

Mike Ryan is senior entertainment writer for The Huffington Post. They’re working on human-rights stuff, they’re working on health stuff, they’re working on civil-rights stuff. The first feature from writer-director Nicholas Jarecki, “Arbitrage” also stars Susan Sarandon as Miller’s wife, Brit Marling as his daughter, Tim Roth as a hard-boiled police detective on his trail and Nate Parker as a family friend who pays a heavy price for helping Miller in his hour of need. This is a movie with an independent distributor. It’s the guys who are winners. None of us did.

So you’re feeling, “I don’t know about this”?

Yeah. The only vaguely sci-fi thing I did was “Mothman Prophecies.” Not a terrible movie. So this stands out, in a way, as being: “Wow, this is a rarity.”

What movie was most important to your career? “An Officer and a Gentleman” or “Pretty Woman”? Or maybe “American Gigolo”?

It was the first one, for me. I remember Julia and I saw it together in a preview and we were sitting next to one another laughing and moved with everybody else. And you’re not exaggerating.

No! I lived with that! And I’m proud of it. I certainly have had very few times, but I’ve had times where an actor and I did not fit. But, in the end, they were in the realm of rational business

. To experience the same excitement, he needs larger wagers or more frequent gambling.

There are chances that he has other psychiatric problems at the same time; for example, substance use disorder, mood and anxiety disorder, personality disorder, etc. Researchers have noticed increased rates of mental health disorders in gamblers with severe ludo mania. ‘Problem gambling’, also known as ‘ludo mania’, can destroy the life of the gambler and also of his/her family members. He may lose his job and may commit crimes to get money for gambling. Study results show that a gambler who has not been treated for compulsive gambling during his desperation phase is likely to commit suicide. Analysis of casino customer data may help identify problem gamblers, but casino owners do not share this data for fear of losing their most lucrative customers (may be 25 – 50%). He lies to his family and friends, borrows money, and loses control over his mind and behavior. But studies show that suicide attempts are usually made by older people with problem gambling.
